One of my all time favorite things about Spanish branches are
their fast and testimony meetings. We had a really cool one yesterday. It was
really powerful to see E... get up and bear her testimony for the first
time. It was also neat to see several other recent converts get up and share
their testimonies for the first time. Elder Arveseth and I both helped
translate testimonies for some of the primary children that don't speak very
fluent Spanish. It was something I'll for sure remember.
Last week we also had a family home evening night at the church
with the S… family and E… and her kids. Elder Arveseth volunteered us to cook
and provide the food. We decided that potatoes would be a good thing, even
though neither of us had ever cooked them before and we forgot that J… hates
potatoes more than anything else. Nonetheless we went to the church to prepare
some food (which we also learned that cooking at the church is
technically a No-No). Anyways, I remember that aluminum foil was a part of
the process so we bought some and brought it with us. So we had potatoes,
aluminum foil, and oven. But how to act we did not know. We determined that the
aluminum foil was to keep the potatoes warm after we baked them, so we set it
aside and proceeded to wash and place the potatoes in the oven. How long were
they supposed to be in there? No idea. So we call the zone leaders. They told
us about 6 or 7 minutes and then to poke them with a fork. I remember thinking
that that sounded a little too short but they sounded pretty confident when
they told us so we went for it. I now know that Potatoes take longer than 6
minutes to cook, especially if they're not wrapped in foil. (We later informed
the zone leaders about this discovery as well).
A sister in the English ward, Sister
McCluir, felt like coming to the church early that day. She
was headed there for a sewing class but for whatever reason felt like
she should go a half hour early. Boy was she inspired. There at the
church she found us two elders struggling to put together a potato
dinner. Needless to say she saved the day and by the time the two families
showed up an hour late we were all ready to receive them and we had what turned
out to be a delicious dinner and a good time. Tender Mercy of the Lord. God
is always watching out for us.
Write in your journals, it helps you recognize the Lord's hand
in your life and it helps you see the good in every day.
Well, got to go. Love you and talk to you this weekend!
